A painting of the famous house and gardens in West Sussex UK. I wanted a very bright effect to the picture so I set the background in bright greens and yellows against a much darker tree shadow area in the foreground. A fire in 1947 reduced most of the house to a ruin but the Messel family partially rebuilt living quarters subsequently where I think they still live after the house and gardens were given to the National Trust in 1953.
Oil on mdf board, gessoed on both sides.
