Guinea Pig Corner refers the the fact that the corner the house on the corner of this street has Guinea pigs roaming free in their front garden.
This work explores the transformative power of artificial lights, especially the LED street lights, on the night time urban landscape in my home city of Swansea. The drab orange-light polluted Victorian/Edwardian streets “illuminated” by different forms of intense high frequency blue-white light. Suddenly day intrudes into the winter night. Green foliage, only visible in the daylight, creeps and intrudes into our night time consciousness. This creates an overlap. The clear break and distinction between night and day is fractured and different time zones seem to exist as one, in one temporal space. I love this frission and this fusion of time. This juxaposition of day and night. No longer separate but fused. I also find these LED lights invigorating. They act as “SAD” lamps on every street corner, sending glad tidings of virtual daylight into the dark, depressing winter nights.
