Artist's description:

Iridescent and interference acrylic paint on canvas and gesso primer over a wooden frame. Finished with a clear, glossy textured gel, worked with a palette knife.

Pink blends into blue and teal, creating cloud like forms that hover in this black atmosphere. The consistently oriented brushstroke directs the eye along the horizontal axis whereas the colour draws your attention vertically. The result is a balanced composition marked by colourful accents.

120 x 90 x 2 cm.

An emotionally inspired piece, with an emphasis on sub-conscious creation and the spiritual, such a work of art is intensely emotional to create. It’s a large sized piece, one that involved careful planning, despite the expression of spontaneity. The activity in the painting was created by the ‘action’ I used: arm and wrist movement, the brushstrokes, splashing and throwing, painting, staining and dripping.

To me, the process of creating such a piece is as important as the finished article. It’s about letting my emotion flow unencumbered, allowing my unconscious to take over from the conscious mind, manifesting in a painting that’s pure creation, not something that’s structured or over-analysed. It represents the true meaning of abstract expressionism, valuing vitality over finish, fluctuation over repose, and the unknown over the known. It’s totally individual, a liberation of light from dark, the colour bursts representing the escape of hope from a void of blackness.
