retro mailbox
100x60cm/oil on canvas/ 2014
The name of painting takes from Soviet song "My address is neither home nor street, my address... is the Soviet Union". I removed from name the words: "is the Soviet Union", leaving it without concreate adress.
It is a powerful metaphor that conveys a very important message. The painting depicts an old mailbox, symbolizing the past when every citizen of the USSR had a common address that did not reflect their personal priorities and needs. In this address, everything was common, and no one could acquire something of their own.
This painting also has a contemporary context related to the war in Ukraine, where many people have actually lost their homes and have problems getting a new "address". This painting is a very important work of art that can help remind people of the value of peace and personal freedom.
