These peaks sit on the border between Andorra and Spain. A small, sovereign landlocked microstate in Europe with a population of 85,000, Andorra is the sixth-smallest nation in Europe, having an area of 181 sq miles. Its capital, Andorra la Vella, is the highest capital city in Europe at an elevation of 1,023 metres above sea level. With no VAT, it enjoys over 10 million visitors annually, of which over 7 million enjoy skiing in its stunning, snow capped peaks.
I love mountains. Hiking up them, skiing down them, walking on them and - when I return home - painting them. Their majestic peaks generate stillness and calm, and I try to capture a sense of perspective, tranquility and peace in my paintings.
I like to work on these paintings freely with my palette knife, unrestrained by brushstrokes. This creates energy within my work meaning that even solid mountains appear to move and change as you look at them.
