I love mountains. Hiking up them, skiing down them, walking on them and - when I return home - painting them. Their majestic peaks generate stillness and calm, and I try to capture a sense of perspective, tranquility and reassurance in my oil paintings. This painting was inspired by Chamonix in France.
I like to work on these paintings freely with my palette knife, unrestrained by brushstrokes. This creates energy within my work meaning that even solid mountains appear to move and change as you look at them.
