I absolutely love the mountains, particularly skiing in them. Their size and beauty are staggering, and they evoke a powerful emotional response of contentment and reassurance. I try to capture the essence of the mountain when I paint - and to prolong that contentment and tranquility for months - and years - to come.
I like to work on these paintings freely with my palette knife, unrestrained by brushstrokes. This creates energy within my work meaning that even solid mountains appear to move and change as you look at them.
This painting was inspired by Oberstdorf, Germany.
