This mixed media piece of two tropical monstera leaves in a vase is a combination of photography, acrylic painting and paper weaving. Starting with a set of photographic images these were combined to create an abstract background which was printed onto acid free paper and mounted onto board. The shape of the leaves was then created by painting in the negative space in white leaving behind the lovely green background to become the leaves. To finish a small vase was made from strips of woven paper and a shadow painted in.
This work was created to demonstrate how photography can be used in the art making process and doesn't necessary have to be a photo as the finished piece.
