Artist's description:

Monica is the 2nd painting is a series of 6 paintings entitled "Gullah Season." This term "Gullah," refers to the African Americas who lived in the United States of South Carolina and Georgia, both in the coastal area, and Sea Islands, (where I am lucky enough to live). These images are reflective of the period in history where the Gullah communities among others, experienced isolation from whites while working on large plantations in rural areas. Gullah Art is almost always colorful, vibrant, and positive, depicting optimism, even in the face of great injustice.
