This painting is about salmon fishing memories, a very appreciated activity by the wealthy and just a regular way of getting food for native people. Two cultures, two different views on the same fish.
Molly is just a girl from her time, accompanying her rich family at the salmon fishing camp. The rich and famous come flocking to the Gaspe Coast, often using private jets, to enjoy this sport.
Most of the time, they catch the fish and put it back into the river.
This painting was inspired by my encounters with these families and their employees and my personal observations of native culture about wild salmon.
This painting uses mixed media (dye transfer of vintage pics in the background, fibers, paper, Ink on canvas).
