This watercolour measures 30 x 30 cm. It fascinating to watch the unhurried workings of the lock. Boats big and small arrive to the lock waiting for the inner chamber behind the gate to be filled with the Thames water. When it is the gates open the boats go in to wait for the water in the inner chamber to level with the following stretch of the river. After that is done the opposite gates open letting the patient boats to carry on their journeys. In this painting I have captured the moment when the boats sailing into to the inner space of the lock. What a pleasure it must be to experience the leisurely life on the river.
