Artist's description:

This was the most difficult composition to complete out of all of the illustrations because of the limited reference available.
A single specimen was taken in 1887 by a Japanese collector, Y. Tashiro. This skin is in poor condition but shows distinct differences from other closely related kingfishers, both in colour variations and by having red feet and longer primary feathers.
As no further records have been made it can be presumed that it is extinct.
