Original artwork description:

Metamorphosis shows a woman becoming a tree.

With eyes closed in reverie, she grows from the landscape with little flames of bright light which are like votive offerings glowing before her. In the foreground of the image the grass is her clothing; little brushstrokes move upwards to the right to bring their energy up around her throat, into her hair...she is becoming the tree.

The russet branches reach into the dark sky with the tips of the left branch becoming a magical blue hue. Balanced behind her in the dark landscape are two trees in full leaf, one either side. Her face has tiny white spots around her eyes inspired by the spots on a fawn.

This is my take on the word Metamorphosis; I have always been inspired by the myth -

"Phyllis, Queen of Thrace, falls in love with Demophoon, son of Theseus. He departs but promises to return in six months' time. When he fails to keep his promise, Phyllis hangs herself, and is turned by the gods into an almond tree. On his eventual return, Demophoon remorsefully embraces the tree, which blooms, as Phyllis emerges to forgive and reclaim her faithless lover."

The painting is ready to hang; it is unframed and the image is continued around the sides of the canvas.
