Artist's description:

A complicated piece for today's troubled times, made on specially handmade paper. It started off with a hand-printed background representing the continuity of life, the things we take for granted. Then a giant crack opening up (an earthquake?) with the surface riven in half. A partly-burned, fossilised leaf. We can each supply our own interpretation....
I recently modified this piece. We're all inventive and this is fundamentally optimistic: there are signs of a silver lining, and bridges being built. Of course you could call it papering over the cracks!
Finally, I've made this piece so that you can hang it any way you like. All four directions work.

Materials used:

Paints, inks, pigments and dyes with silver leaf on handmade paper.
