This is an oil pastel drawing on paper of the landscape surrounding Belalcazar, Cordoba, Spain. The image comes from my memory of walking around the place, particular around the back of the Convento de Santa Clara and La Fragua. It combines various views remembered. the mountains in the distance, the olive trees, rolling fields of freshly harvested wheat, evidence of the tracks left by the farmers, the changing weather, the heat of the sun and the coming clouds of a rain storm about to break.

These oil pastels form a series of poetical drawings exploring my memory of place and the effect the act of remembering has upon the present moment of its execution. The style reminds me of Courbet and his studies of people in the landscape, which inspired Van Gogh. There seem to be elements of artists I study and its composition reminds me of Courbet, Van Gogh, Delacroix, Goya and the Impressionists.
