The Mechanics of Consciousness is a series in continuum where my intention was to create an artifact in which I am working with the very mechanics of consciousness through oil painting. It is to embody my skills, ideas and aesthetics as an object that would bestow the commentary of it's own context out side my presence.
In the Mechanics of Consciousness believing is not a requirement for consciousness… But knowing how you have come to your beliefs is. To explore this question of how you have come to knowing just might lead you to a greater consciousness. The Christ is a symbol that is integrally linked to the painting masters of the Renaissance. He is the symbol of human perfection and the embodiment of the suffering that comes with its striving. Whether you are an atheist or believer, allow yourself to imagine what it would be like to paint God. What would you paint? What care would you give the process?
Every time I paint the Mechanics of Consciousness something magical happens. I am able to articulate a question… a message. I sculpt the message on to the canvas with my physical consciousness. I shape the paint with my brush through the acuity of my touch and sight. And I continue to ask myself am I seeing? Am I touching? Am I feeling? Am I thinking? Am I conscious? Am I dreaming? Is this dream a message? Do receivers for this message exist? Am I the only receiver?
