In search of treatment, the German artist E.L. Kirchner attended the Park Sanatorium in Davos, Switzerland. This print is based upon a drawing Kirchner made of himself and Dr. Bauer, Chief Physician there. The doctor was an intelligent, sensitive and patient man, one of the few people who didn’t aggravate Kirchner in his troubles. And I wondered - who has never consulted a doctor? In our lives the experience must be almost universal.
This print is pulled from an engraving cut from a sheet of rubber, a variation of letterpress. After removal of areas that are to be left as white paper, the rubber sheet is then rolled up with ink and pressed to paper, producing the print. The technique does not accommodate reprinting, so the edition is forever fixed at 5 copies.
This print will fit straight into a 12 x 10 inch frame.
oil based black printing ink, Hahnemuhle etching paper 300gsm
