Artist's description:

It requires high Chinese gongbi technique using ink to paint lotus flower. The most famous Chinese Gongbi painting artist at Song Dynasty used this technique to paint. The lotus flower in this painting is in the Fall season blossoming under moonlight.
From ancient times the lotus has been a divine symbol in Asian traditions representing the virtues of sexual purity and non-attachment. The lotus represents purity of the body, speech, and mind as if floating above the muddy waters of attachment and desire.

In Chinese Gong-bi painting, we use basic composition and apply different color Gong-bi painting technique and more changes base on request from collectors. So, one composition can be painted multiple times with changes based on the different request. Collectors could request add one flower, or put butterfly, or more leaves, different colors, and anything they want to be included in the painting. I know this is different than western painting. However according to Chinese Gong-bi painting, each such painting is original and it is one of its kind. This has been applied thousands of years ago when ancient painting artist painted their artwork, they use basic composition and work on the painting base on the request. There will be lots of changes in one basic composition, like details, the color, painting technique and etc.
