I painted this in gouache and got lost in those amazing eyes - they were my favourite part to paint (as is true of any animal painting I do in a realistic style like this).
This adorable seal cub was spotted on a beach in Caithness, in the far north of Scotland, where I live and photographed by a local lady who kindly gave me permission to use her photograph as reference.
I am submitting this painting into the Artfinder/Liquitex competition with the theme of 'muted' as the colour palette I used for this painting is in very muted tones of greys and greens to reflect the algae covered rocks which provided the perfect camouflage for the grey seal pup. I love how nature helps wildlife to blend perfectly into their surroundings.
This painting comes ready to hang in an ivory mount/mat and ivory frame.
