Artist's description:

To me the main purpose of a visual expression is to evoke. Evoke thought, evoke emotion or if you can, both. I want people to feel something when they see my art. I want to make a point by tugging at the heart strings, and at times the mind strings. What good are expert rendering skills if you're not saying anything with it. Art is a visual conversation. As artist we are moderators, we instigate the conversations by posing the questions, and by doing so we encourage the viewer to search for the answers.

In this painting I attempt to examine the contrast between social media vs in person communication and connection. While one can easily acknowledge all the wonderful aspects social media has to offer the modern world, we have also seen how it has the potential to create social discord, interpersonal conflicts, dissociation and addiction. My goal with this painting is to encourage viewers to stop and take a moment to reflect upon their own use of social media, how and to what degree it may affect them on a personal level, and basically I want people to do a self assessment, bill of health if you will. I'm not saying you have to go off the grid and live in the wilderness like the Swiss Family Robinson. What this painting represents is just a mindful statement concerning modern technology and I'm just posing the question, the answer is in your hands.

This original was painted in oil on 16X40 gallery wrapped canvas, ready to hang.
