Original artwork description
The Best Strawberry is a large original oil painting on unstretched canvas, 122 x 91 cm (48 x 36 inches), painted in 2020 by London artist Ryan Louder.
Two children sit facing one another in a field of thick green and warm ochre. The older one leans forward and offers something small: a strawberry that burns red out of all proportion to everything around it. In the hypnagogic state small objects do that, they amplify until they are the whole scene, and this painting keeps that law. Both children share enough of the field's green and pink that their edges never quite resolve, they belong to the grass as much as they stand on it. Between them on the ground sits a transparent container with no reason to be there, which is exactly why it stayed.
This is a direct recording of how the world looks during REM intrusion, not a metaphor. I have painted over 2,000 works, with over 1,000 originals sold.
