However you approach it, Herman van Nazareth is without doubt a Belian/South African artist – who came into being out of the African soil from this earth. From the day he set foot on South African soil in 1965, his work has been influenced by this continent. South Africa is where he studied and made his enormous contribution to the development of a new and modern idiom in South African art. Despite the satirical comment his work delivers, it is not political, but rather concerns itself with universal matters.
His work is represented in all the public art museums throughout the country and in countless corporate and private collections. He is also proudly included in the catalogues of national exhibitions and he has represented South Africa and Belgium in international exhibitions. When he is not in Belgium, the place where he feels most at home is Jakkalsfontein, on the bleak West Coast.
Herman van Nazareth lives and works in Belgium and in South-Africa.
