This creepy figure represents koledar. Koledari are Slavic traditional performers of a ceremony called koleda ( koleduvane). This is a custom from ancient pagan times and one of the first fertility rituals during the year. Unlike spring fertility rituals, which are floral and colorful, this one falls in the darkest, chthonic time of the year, January. Hence this creepy costume design. It is associated with Koliada, a celebration incorporated later into Christmas.
Original artwork, painted using high quality Schmincke oil colors. Stretched on wooden frame, ready to hang or framing.
oil colors, canvas, gesso, mediums
