We all have favorite paintings. The one which gives you the feeling of butterflies in a stomach no matter how often it has been seen.
Matisse's " The Goldfish" 1912 is the one for me.
The day I saw Goldfish at Pushkin Museum for a first time is one of
mine most vivid childhood memories.
Thin, almost clumsy brushstrokes and washes. White canvas coming through. The Red. The Green. The black "seeds" of fish eyes.
It was Magic. For a first time I realized that colors could create a Sound. For a fist time I was in Love.
30 years passed by and it still gives me “goose bumps".
And every 5 -6 years or so, I paint a few canvases with gold fish.
This is my latest paintings (with koi fish this time).
They are a little bit Homage, a little bit obsessions, and a little bit of testing a new territory.
And as always - a labor of love.
