This is a purely decorative piece that was inspired by a rug I saw some years ago in Istanbul. I often photograph something that catches my eye and then years later as in this instance, find the photo re-jig the design and colours to make it my own and then cut it into a linoprint, which works really well for patterns.
This piece is in bright shades of pink and mauve. The swatches of colour are made using handed painted tissue paper which are first carefully glued on with the linocut block then printed on the top. This technique is called chine colle' and it gives a lovely and colourful translucent effect which contrasts well with the graphic lines of the linocut print.
