Artist's description:

This is a collage of my grandmother's crochet work, with embedded mirrors and encaustic paint and oil and wax paint. It was the first in the series of pieces incorporating her crocheted work. My grandmother came to the United States when she was fifteen. She raised five children, partly as a single-mother after being widowed. I always thought that her crocheting was her artistic expression in a life with no room for art.

Materials used:

crochet doily, encaustic paint, oil and wax paint, mirrors
