Artist's description:

Japanese Circle Set 七 is the seventh painting in a set a micro-scenes.
What the artist calls 'circlescpaes'. A collection of paintings working within a small circle.
It is reflective of the scenery the artist experienced while walking in the Kii Peninsula & The Kitaazumi District, Nagano Prefecture, Japan. Over a winter/spring and has been the focus of his new paintings from his Scottish studio in Glasgow's Eastend.

Within the circle are the indications of a forest treeline and hills, mountains or sky behind.
It's quite minimal. This 'circlescape' is perhaps more of a tone study, the tree details are only observed on closer inspection. It's the golden surround and the purple-blue centre.
The tree line is marked with the artists scratching technique in a tight cluster of tree branches and shapes.

It was painted using Japanese watercolour paints to create an inner circle of blended soft heather purple, which makes up the hill section. Behind this is dusty soft blue which could be the sky or another further away hillside.
A ring of white and the outer circle is a soft golden harvest yellow, golden almost.

The artist has placed sharp branches of trees which were cut from the top layers of paint to reveal the undercoat of white.

The rims of the circle are ragged and sharp in places as the artist explores making the centre look like a stamp or a print.

The painting has a coating of clear epoxy resin, giving it a high gloss finish. A surface the artist has intended for his works for many years, this is the first collection to receive the treatment.

Depending on the picture the artist usually does not sign the front unless it can be disguised or hidden in the picture. This picture has a very minimal nature, so is signed on the reverse.

The painting comes ready to hang in a hand-painted white wooden frame.
