Original artwork description:

Kimikaa: I have a great interest in community and the colors they create. The fragmented moments they share. The emotions in between spaces, shattered and carried throughout our lives. To notice, to make an account, drives me. These paintings are about the pleasures of being aware of the world around me and telling these stories from many angles. Diving into these shapes and juxtaposition help me push between the paint, my subject and experience. Exploring community with an expanding grasp of shape, color, and process.

Iris Morales | 2016

Curator Note: In the midst of the African American liberation struggle, protests to end the Vietnam War and the women's movement for equality, Puerto Rican and Latino/a communities fought for economic, racial and social justice.
