This is a detail of classical Ionic column, part of the order or columns which includes Doric, Ionic, Tuscan and Composite. The first 3 originated in Ancient Greece and the Romans introduced Tuscan and Composite. Ancient classical architecture and its rules were introduced in the 18th Century by Edward Palladian architects including Colen Campbell, Lord Burlington, William Kent, Roger Morris, Henry Flitcroft and others. The print is a sugar-lift etching that has a painterly quality. It has been printed with oil-based inks on somerset paper with a Hunter -Penrose press.
Materials used:
Zinc plate and oil based etching inks on Somerset printmaking paper.
