This work is part of a serie called "Innesti" ("Grafts"), which aim is to show how Italian chestnuts are invaded by a Chinese parasite called Dryocosmus kuriphilus. Since this parasite doesn't belong to Italian ecosystem, it is leading our beautiful chestnut woods to a severe illness, with the production of chestnuts down to the 10% of the the original amount. All the paintings of this serie shows female bodies "grafted" with ill chestnut twigs. The red balls among the leaves are the galls in which Dryocosmos kuriphilus maggots lays until they become a sort of small black wasp. The ill leaves falls before their time and the whole tree results debilitate. This work is realized on paper applied on wood board. The leaves are in relief because they are painted on a cardbord applied on the painting. the board edge is decorated with stapled wool cut off from a sweater. The b-side ofthe work is decorated with a collage made with photos and vintage '30 Italian magazine, but it can be enjoyed only by the future owner of the work!!!
