One of my neighbours owns a large parcel of land which has been in his family for decades. Kind-hearted soul that he is, he allows riff-raff such as myself to frequent the beauty on a daily basis. Our brief winter on the Island transforms the familiar forest greenery into a magical, other-worldly magnificence... a brief interlude of crisp whites, already heralding the warmth of April's awakening.
This piece has been entered in the ArtFinder/Liquitex challenge for the theme of Muted Colours. Much of the work I do has to do with the quiet internalization of the external world. I often like to capture that place of stillness that occurs before everything shifts. The compost of colour: the subtle layer of last year's leaves, now brown and purple beneath the snow is what facilitates the richness of spring.
