Original artwork description:

The title comes from the first line of a poem by Emily Dickinson, and it was in mind as I painted this, although the colors are more tropical than the North Atlantic Dickinson would have seen, had she ever seen the sea. There's pearlized white and some copper in this, but the major colors are light turquoise, maroon, wine, and dark cobalt violet. It is incredibly active for such a small painting, but the composition works well to convey energy and a visual lyricism (appropriate for a painting named for a poet). There are a few touches of lavender and light yellow and gold as well. This is painted on cradled hardboard and does not require a frame (I think it looks better unframed).

Materials used:

acrylic paint, acrylic medium, cradled hardboard surface
