Artist's description:

30″ x 48″ Mixed media on canvas, stretched over a handmade frame.

For anyone that sells items online via any well know platform I am sure the title of this painting is familiar to you, if not, I am sure it will be one day soon. Below is an email that I have received multiple times, from multiple, fictional people.

“I am Elizabeth burn from the UK I am an oceanographer and am currently at sea at the moment, i am buying the item as a gift for my Dad, i want to make it a surprise for him,he wont know anything about the item until they get delivered to him, i can only pay through paypal as i don’t have access to my bank account online as i don’t have internet banking, but i have my bank account attached to my paypal account and this is why i insisted on paying you through paypal,So kindly send me an invoice from your Paypal account for the amount you’re willing to sell the item so i can proceed with the payment and after the payment has been done, i have a pick up agent that will come around to pick the item up so don’t add shipping fees and will be done after i have made the payments for the item…”

It’s pretty hard to believe that people are duped out of millions of dollars annually, by emails scams like this one, or in many cases, way more elaborate. It’s a sorry state of affairs all around. I feel sorry for the people that have gotten to the point where stealing from others is a means for survival as well as the desperate people that they prey on. If you ever receive an email that sounds too good to be true, chances are it is. Trust your gut.
