Horse – reduction linocut print (2025) Linocut by Jennie Smallenbroek

40 x 40 x 2cm (framed) / 30 x 30cm (actual image size)

£407.16

Experience the strength and grace of the horse with this original, hand-printed reduction linocut.

The 30 × 30 cm image is printed on 35 × 35 cm, 300 gsm Fabriano paper. Ten individually printed layers of Caligo Safe Wash oil-based relief ink create rich colour, depth and a vibrant tactile surface.

The artwork is available in a strictly limited edition of only 10 impressions. Every print is made individually by hand, creating subtle variations in colour, texture and pressure that give each impression its own unique character.

The reduction technique involves carving more material away from the same linoleum block before every new colour is printed.

Once a layer has been completed and the block has been carved again, there is no possibility of returning to an earlier stage. The process requires careful planning, patience and precision throughout all 10 layers.

My inspiration comes from the animals that surround me every day. In my countryside studio, I hear sheep, goats and horses as I work. Their presence brings me tranquillity and joy—feelings I try to express through my art.

The decorative style of this print is influenced by Art Nouveau and artists such as William Morris and Alphonse Mucha.
