Artist's description:

This image was taken on the outskirts of Saskatoon in Canada. It was the first time I’d seen hoar frost, an uncommon occurrence, the right climatic conditions prevailing in the early morning to create a few hours of wonderful sights.

Subtly different to snow, instead of building up on the top part of tree branches etc, hoar frost forms on all sides, giving everything it touches the appearance of being made from ice.

The lone tree in a field wrapped in ice seemed to be shivering, it made me glad that I wasn't far from the heated car and a trip to the cafe for a hot chocolate!

Many thanks to Monika Kinner-Whalen for taking us on this wonderful expedition.
