Recently I have been observing the surroundings much more in-depth. I've been taking look a feelings and emotions, children's novels, and famous statues. My latest observation has been that of the mustache and the modern day style. The hipster scene is a very interesting subculture. Many people have mixed feelings about this culture, but I feel that it is a very expressionistic culture that began with what most artist seek, uniqueness and self expression. Wether the scene is processing or loosing foundation in society, the hipster has a certain style that seems to have the capability to be matched to different fields. While I have seen many styles of formal hipster, I have not seen him portrayed in oil paintings. So as always, I thought to myself, how can I embrace this character and keep true to the sense. The classic ray bans and the hop mustache I feel are certainly the classics when we think of this subject. The color I choose for this painting is something I also feel dwells in the society. Many of these individuals shop at thrift stores and embrace such styles. On my personal voyage to one of these stores I observed a mass array of teal and jade colored objects, and thus I embraced this color as one that represents my views and feelings towards this scene. The mustache was stitched with thick black string to add some hipster taste, but more so to give it my signature and personal touch.
