There are currently a number of wonderful new books available with a focus on nature, wildlife and the wilderness. The likes of Monbiot's Feral and Michael McCarthy's The Moth Snowstorm have returned me to the writings of transcendentalists Thoreau and Emerson. They feature recurring themes that many writers and thinkers have touched upon and it is these great minds who are the inspiration for my new series of vintage portraits.
This portrait of Henry David Thoreau has been illustrated onto the title page of his fascinating philosophical account of living in a New England woodland. It's written with a wonderful clarity of mind and with a resounding relevance to the world today.
The artwork is finished by floating the page in a 7x7, glass fronted black frame.
