Here is another of my Hellebore paintings. I am so inspired by these lovely flowers. Once again I have painted them back lit to emphasize all the structural shapes. The colours on this one are very bright and exaggerated. However, this high contrast gives the impression the sunlight is flooding through the painting!

These were based on some photos I took at RHS Wisley. There were several banks of fantastic hellebores growing in a large rockery area. I arrived just at the right time as the sun was behind them.

This is painted in acrylics on canvas. It has 3 layers of UV varnish to protect the canvas. The canvas is mounted inside a burnished gilt wooden floater frame. The frame is included, as it was made specifically for this canvas. I don't always frame my canvas paintings. However, this was first displayed at the Society of Floral Painters exhibition, earlier this year. where they prefer to have canvas works framed. It actually gives the painting a nice finishing touch.
