This painting (from a series of 11) was inspired by a poem in the Chinese Mustard Seed Garden Manual: a 15th century publication on the techniques of the great Chinese masters. The imagery was based on my experiences backcountry snowboard touring in the Selkirk Mountains of British Columbia. I wanted to capture the ethereal quality of a snow encapsulated landscape. A valley and variety of dramatic mountain peaks cloud the skies under gentle snowfall. Red seal compiled from roman numeral, Mandarin characters and initials. Canvas edges trimmed in pthalo blue.
