Portugal Harvest on Azulejo Time – Winter Sun
A row of bright citrus fruits rests along an old Portuguese azulejo wall, glowing like small drops of winter sunshine against the cool blues and weathered whites. A few delicate green leaves remain attached to the fruit, bringing a touch of freshness and movement to the scene.

I was drawn to the contrast between the vivid warmth of the harvest and the quiet, aged surroundings—the faded tiles, the cracked plaster, and the worn wooden surface below. There is something very Portuguese in this meeting of color, light, and time: the old and the new existing together, beautifully imperfect.

The low winter light gives the scene a peaceful, almost nostalgic feeling. It is a small moment of warmth found in an ordinary place—a reminder that even on the coolest days, the sun can still find its way in.

Winter Sun is part of my ongoing series “Portugal Harvest on Azulejo Time,” inspired by the fruits, colors, textures, and everyday beauty I encounter in Portugal.

The painting is created with watercolor on paper. It is sold unframed and will be carefully rolled and shipped in a protective tube.
