Artist's description:

Part of a series of studies that I have started with an aim of drawing a hundred Hares. This Hare looks particularly fearful.
The series will range from the detailed to the simple and will provide me with an increased understanding and familiarity of Hares that will help me when further characterising them - drawn in April 2017.

Hares are a favourite subject matter of mine that I often return to when reconnecting with drawing, especially after spending sometime with abstract work. Here I have depicted a single Hare in charcoal using a variety of marks and blending tools which express the vigour with which I drew it. My intention is to develop my depiction of Hares in an expressive way and to produce artwork that reveals the character, real or imagined, of the subject and to entertain and inspire the viewer with the results.
The drawing will be fixed with Winsor and Newton fixative spray to minimise smudging due to the softness of the pencils used.
