Painted on location at on a grey day at Happisburg Beach in Norfolk. I was drawn to this scene by the activity of the people on the beach. I painted the scene entirely from life which involved quite a bit of moving my easel around as the composition evolved and the people moved around. I wanted to show some of the determination of the people to enjoy their day as the day got greyer and I loved the colours that were reflected in the wet sand.
