Artist's description:

A hawk coming in to land, the sunlight encasing its back and slipping through its feathers. From a photograph.

An initial gesture drawing in charcoal and textures through water-miscible oil applied with a roller/brayer started things off. The image developed through layering pastel, dark to light, capturing the shimmering nature of the hawk's feathers.

Materials used:

Soft pastel, charcoal and water-miscible oil paint

Hangin' (2017)
