Original artwork description:

Goulphar is a 52m high granite lighthouse on the island of Belle Île. The view from the top extends miles across the land and well into the Bay of Biscay. If you visit the site of Les Aiguiles de Port-Coton, (the needles) famously painted by Monet, the lighthouse is visible as you look back inland.

Walking out as far as you can along the rocky spur, gives you the added view of the cliffs with their amazing linear strata. I was drawn to capture the deep shadows cast in the bright sunlight, and the beautiful pattern of lines in the rock. Despite the grand size of the lighthouse, the cliffs are even more majestic.
