Original artwork description:
Growing up, my yard was surrounded by a weathered picket fence, gray and mossy, with palings that were worn and warped, but I still think it was one of the most beautiful fences I ever have seen. It seemed as organic as the grass and trees in the yard. This painting is based partly on my memory of that fence, which actually had some broken palings that we climbed across to visit our neighbors. To me, the adage "good fences make good neighbors" also means that we can cross those fences. This painting with the sparrow represents the freedom of crossing fences, of connecting across distance and borders.
Acrylic on canvas with satin finish. This painting is on a 2-inch gallery wrapped frame that is painted on the sides so that it can be hung unframed.
