Another in my series of screenprints of inspiring women artists. (German, Expressionist / Fauvist, 1877 – 1962)
A founding member of Der Blaue Reiter group, Gabriele defied society’s norms to study art and became a significant sculptor, painter, printmaker and scribbler. In her earlier years, she painted vibrant, colourful landscapes but after her ill-fated affair with Kandinsky ended, her later works adopted a more subdued palette and her subject matter changed to focus more on portraits of women.
