Still life can take on a multitudes of genres, from Impressionistic to Tonalistic, from photo-realistic to tromp L’oeil.
My works seems to fall into a class between realism and tromp L’oeil. As a youngster in my teens, my idol was the tromp L’oeil Master of the time, Michael William Harnett. A close second to Harnett was John Peto, one of Harnett’s contemporaries. .Harnett was known for his attempts to “fool the eye” with his work while Peto’s work was more in the realm of a moderate to loose realism. They each had merits, one over the other. Hopefully both of these artists show up in areas of my artwork. You can be the judge. "Fresh Air" has a shallow depth field and an attempt to "fool the eye" under the right lighting.
