Artist's description:
Freedom
A moorland summer
A Peak District moorland
A small original oil painting on canvas paper within a cream mount, with backing board- ready for customer to frame in standard 8 x 10 inches frame. The actual artwork measures 4 x 6 inches.
Inspired by the late August heather moorlands around my home in the Peak District.
Also inspired by one of my favourite Ted Hughes poems..
Heather
The upper millstone heaven
Grinds the heather's face hard and small.
Heather only toughens
And out of a mica of sterility
That nobody else wants
Thickens a nectar
Keen as adders venom.
And wind from the end of the sky
Buffs and curries the grizzly bear-dark pelt
Of Long skylines
Browsing in innocence
Through their lasting purple aeons.
Heather is listening
Past hikers, gunshots, picnickers
For the star drift
Of returning ice.
No news here
But the crumbling outcrop of voices
Of grouse.
A sea of bees, meanwhile, mapped by the sun
