Question for the artist?

Artist's description:

This mixed media encaustic piece incorporates Asian symbols and 3D dragons to make a one of a kind wall hanging. Done on cradled board, the colors are muted to suggest age and included in the mixed media with the wax is sari ribbon, Asian newspaper, and four dragons. The piece has also been incised, and turquoise color added. Ready to hang. Sides have been sealed clear with oil.

Encaustic art work holds up well, only a few cautions are needed - do not place in direct sunlight or over a heat source. It will not melt in normal circumstances and takes a minimum of care, simply rub the waxed areas with nylon hose occasionally to keep the shine. It will make a beautiful and unusual compliment to your home or office!

Please contact me with any questions. Customs, duties and taxes are the sole responsibility of the buyer.

Encaustic comes from the Greek word "enkaustikos" which means "to burn (in)" and is an ancient form of art. Each melted wax layer is mixed with resin for strength and body. An encaustic art piece is made up of many layers and uses clear wax or natural wax (which has a warm yellow tint) and wax paint which also includes resin.. Special brushes are needed. The surface of the finished piece is either smooth or textured.

Materials used:

board, wax and resin, collage materials
