‘Forever Is No Time At All’ is an acrylic painting on canvas paper. It is presented in a cream coloured card window mount. The painted image is 29.5 x 22cms and the mounted frame is 35.5 x 28cms. ‘Forever Is No Time At All’ is part of a series of painted studies which are responses to my understanding and appreciation of urban and rural Indian culture. My fascination with Indian culture has led me to appreciate the colour, atmosphere, and spirituality of this remarkable land. I still have so much to learn but my understanding is growing and my paintings are part of that learning. I have been encouraged to make these paintings by a recent visit to an exhibition by leading Indian artist Bhupen Khakhar at Tate Modern in London. The painting is a response to the idea of a busy Indian market environment. Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Mandai, in Mumbai is a sea of green. With people densely populating the market area, flags of green and red hang overhead and the melodic sound of the azan, or call to prayer, echoes from a distance, creates a beautiful environment. Standing still, only crowds of people are visible, and getting drowned in the chaos of the market is all too easy. Spices, foods, fragrances ..so typical of busy Indian market places. I love the colourful chaos. I love the incident and accident. I love the human interaction. I try to capture these feelings in these painted studies.
